[Watch] High-Speed Chase Ends With Vehicle Theft Suspect in Custody

On Friday morning, at approximately 04h45, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received multiple alerts on Crime Alert WhatsApp groups reporting shots fired in Bornick Road, Windermere.

Armed Officers and members of our Special Operations Team (SOT) were immediately dispatched to the area.

On arrival, they discovered that five suspects in a white VW Polo had attempted to steal a vehicle on Bornick Road. The homeowner disturbed the suspects during the attempted theft, resulting in shots being fired. The suspects immediately fled the scene, managing only to steal the vehicle battery.

Shortly afterward, while patrolling Queen Nandi Drive, our Special Operations Team spotted the vehicle with five occupants on Queen Nandi Drive. Upon spotting our members, the suspects fled at high speed toward KwaMashu. Officers pursued the vehicle, which eventually lost control at the corner of Queen Nandi Drive and Ingome Road, crashing into parked vehicles.

The suspects exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers quickly apprehended one suspect in the crashed vehicle, while the others managed to evade arrest.

KwaMashu SAPS were contacted and took over the scene.

After a thorough search of the suspect and the vehicle, our team recovered numerous car-breaking implements, housebreaking tools, vehicle computer boxes, and the stolen vehicle battery. Investigations revealed that the suspects’ vehicle was using false number plates, with the original plates concealed in the front passenger side.

The suspect, the vehicle, and all recovered items were transported to KwaMashu SAPS for further processing and investigation.

This swift and coordinated response highlights our commitment to rapid intervention, community vigilance, and holding criminals accountable. Residents are reminded to report suspicious activity immediately, as timely reporting can help recover stolen property quickly and prevent further crime.
