During the course of May, 257 incidents were reported to our Emergency Dispatch Centre. This was a 25% increase on our 2022 year-to-date average incidents per month. The top types of incidents throughout the month were housebreakings, calls for medical assistance, theft of copper and trespassings.
SUCCESSES
Our teams arrested 22 suspects (on average we arrest a suspect every 36 hours) and recovered 12 stolen or hijacked vehicles. ๐ช

Our teams went into life-saving mode when they responded to a fire at an Umgeni Park home, breaking down doors and crawling through smoke to rescue a woman trapped inside.
- Arrested! Suspected Car Thieves In Possession Of Jamming Devices, Cloned Plates
Various car break-in implements, jamming devices and cloned numberplates were found when two suspects driving a vehicle wanted for multiple cases of vehicle theft were arrested.
- Teams Recover Stolen Durban North Vehicle Within 20 Minutes
A vehicle that was stolen in Durban North was recovered approximately 20 minutes after teams were activated to respond to the theft.
CRIME TRENDS
Hijackings and theft of courier vehicles and their stock persisted throughout the month. We urge courier vehicle drivers to be extra vigilant following recent incidents.
