Quick and effective response to the alerts of vigilant community members led to the arrest of two suspects wanted for housebreaking incidents in the Effingham and Avoca areas following a high speed chase earlier this afternoon.
This morning at approximately 10h30 two suspects were spotted by alert community members jumping over a wall into a homeowners property on Tasneem Crescent in the Avoca area. The suspects were disturbed and then jumped back out of the property and into a getaway vehicle, which was a blue Kia Soul. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.
The details of the suspects’ vehicle was circulated to all our Armed Response Officers and Special Operation Team members to be on the look out.
Only a couple hours later at approximately 12h30 the same vehicle was spotted on Tasneem Crescent by alert community members who immediately informed our Emergency Dispatch Centre. Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched who then spotted the vehicle travelling on Effingham Road in the Effingham area and proceeded to pursue it.
Members of our Special Operations Team were immediately activated to assist our Armed Response Officers who joined in the chase on North Coast Road, heading towards the N2 freeway. Members of the SAPS Pheonix Trio Crimes Unit also then joined in the high speed chase as the suspects joined the N2 south freeway from North Coast Road.
After a high speed chase the vehicle was eventually stopped on the N2 south freeway just before the Spaghetti Junction. Two suspects were immediately arrested while a third suspect unfortunately managed to evade arrest after fleeing into a nearby dense bush.
Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, various housebreaking implements were found together with overall clothing which could possibly be used by the suspects to change their clothing description after committing a crime.
It was later established that the same vehicle was wanted for a housebreaking that had occurred in Desai Crescent in the Effingham area earlier this month.
It was also later established that the same two suspects who were arrested had been arrested earlier this year in April for being involved in an attempted housebreaking incident in Bailey Road in Avoca. The suspects together with the vehicle used in a commission of crime were handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Thank you to the SAPS Phoenix Trio Crimes Unit and Tracker Ground Team for their assistance on scene.
