FOUR ARMED SUSPECTS KILLED, TWO ARRESTED IN SHOOTOUT:

Acting on information received from crime intelligence officers, members of the South African Police Service’s K9 Unit, Flying Squad, and Marshall Security intercepted a gold Hyundai i20 motor vehicle on the R102 in the Veralum area yesterday afternoon. The vehicle in question was taken earlier this year in a hijacking in the Sydenham area and has since been used in several violent crimes around the greater Durban area.
SAPS and Marshall Security attempted to bring the vehicle to a stop and in an effort to evade arrest, the six occupants of the Hyundai began shooting at the officers who returned fire and a shootout ensued, with the vehicle coming to a stop near the Canelands intersection.
Four suspects were fatally wounded, whilst two alighted from the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot into nearby bushes. With the assistance of a K9 officer, both men were tracked and arrested.
The men are believed to be linked to several armed robberies across the greater Durban area including the murder of an armed response officer in the Durban South area.
